Two washing-up bowls on a camping table, next to them a sieve, a sponge and a plate drying.

Campsites have a washing-up area. Outside, the rule is: as little water, soap and leftovers as possible, and none of it into any body of water.

Before

The two bowl method

  1. One bowl with warm water and a drop of washing-up liquid, one with clear water.
  2. Wash the cleanest things first, the pots last.
  3. Rinse in the second bowl and leave to air dry.

Where does the dishwater go?

Pour it through a fine sieve, the leftovers go in the bin. On campsites and stopovers, the water goes down the drain or to the disposal station. Outside, and only where allowed: spread it widely at least 60 metres away from streams, lakes and springs, don't tip it all in one spot.
